At the Paestum Wine Festival 2023 I had the pleasure of getting to know a very young winery, born only in 2016 and with the first harvest done in 2019. I’m talking about the Natalia Magnoni farm born from the dreams of a mother, Natalia, and a daughter, Teresa, who want to bring a new spirit to Rutino, a small Cilento village very active in the world of wine (in fact their relatives Salvatore Magnoni and Alfonso Rotolo are already active there), with their white and with their next to come out red, produced entirely from Merlot grapes.
It must be said that a lot of tenacity flows in the blood of these two women, who knows perhaps inherited from their relative Michele Magnoni who was one of the “Mille”. This tenacity is, in my opinion, excellent for proposing a new product for a land like Cilento, which is predominantly patriarchal and in which few but tenacious women manage to emerge.
Their wine, called Primaluce, is produced 90% from Fiano grapes and 10% from Falanghina and the clayey/limestone soil is located 350 meters above sea level with a northwest exposure.
Of the three vintages tried, namely 2020, 2021 and 2022, I must say that I preferred, perhaps due to the too much freshness of the 2022, the 2021 due to its high persistence and intensity both on the nose and on the nose.
Hence, I have decided to introduce you to the 2021.
The Primaluce 2021 from the Natalia Magnoni company is straw yellow with greenish reflections and is sufficiently consistent and clear.
On the olfactory examination it is both intense and persistent. Intense notes of tropical and exotic fruits are perceived such as passion fruit and pineapple, subtle notes of Robinia pseudoacacia, as well as juniper and toasted almonds.
Upon gustatory examination it appears to be dry, soft, fresher than savory, sufficiently warm.
The taste-olfactory examination is both intense and persistent. The notes of tropical fruits return, such as pineapple and passion fruit, as well as Williams pear and toasted almonds.
It is a balanced wine, fine both from an olfactory and gustatory point of view, as well as being ready to drink.
