The Guarnaccino is a vine present in the Chiaromonte area (district of Potenza – Basilicata) since ancient times. Nevertheless, only in 2007 a research project promoted by the Alsia Basilicata (Lucan agency for development and innovation in agriculture) has been assigned to the CRA (“Consiglio per la Ricerca e Sperimentazione” / “counsel for research and experimentation”) to prevent this vine from disappearing.
According to the ampelographic researches contained in the Masaf, or better in the national catalogue of grapes varieties, the Guarnaccino has the following characteristics: five-lobed, wedge-shaped, medium size and dark-green in colour leaf; conical-shaped, medium lenght and size grape with 3-4 wings; the berry is short, narrow and spheroidal.
Furthermore, in general the grape shows high tolerance to mycotic attacks.
Now I am going to introduce to you the Guarnaccino 2021 PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) produced by Luigi Lauria.
This wine is obtained by separating the grapes from the stems which are lightly pressed to avoid color contamination, then there is fermentation at a controlled temperature, followed by refinement on the fine lees after racking, then rest in the bottle for two months.
This wine is golden yellow with reflections tending towards pale orange. It is clear and sufficiently consistent. On the olfactory examination it is both intense and persistent. Notes of herbaceous, apricot, yellow peach, anise and honey are perceptible. Thus, it is a fine wine.
The taste-olfactory examination is dry, warm enough, soft, fresh and savory enough. It turns out to be both a balanced and structured wine. It is also both intense and persistent even to the taste and the aroma of apricot, honey, green anise and yellow peach returns. A day and a half after opening, the organoleptic notes remain unchanged.
